The Carmel Plaza was originally built in 1960 with just a few specialty stores facing Ocean Avenue. In 1961, Patisserie Boissiere was established and added to the Plaza. In 1974 the Plaza expanded to an entire square block from Ocean Avenue to 7th Ave with over 40 shops, restaurants and underground parking. It is the cornerstone of the City of Carmel showcasing a variety of shops, restaurants and events throughout the year. The Carmel Plaza features adding award wining lush gardens, water fountains, outdoor seating and even a special drinking fountain for dogs – The Fountain of Woof. The Plaza is a three story, open air specialty shopping destination.
